PSIRA Compliance
When choosing a provider for CCTV, access control, alarm systems, and other security-related services, compliance matters.
In South Africa, the Private Security Industry Regulation Act regulates who may legally render certain security-related services. In terms of the Act, a “security service” includes giving advice on the protection or safeguarding of a person or property, as well as installing, servicing, or repairing security equipment.
This means that companies or individuals who offer security advice, or who install and maintain qualifying security equipment for payment, may be required to be registered with PSIRA as security service providers. The Act further states that no person may render a security service for remuneration unless registered, and that contracts inconsistent with that requirement are invalid to that extent.
Failure to comply can carry serious consequences. Under the Act, contravening the registration requirement may result, on conviction, in a fine or imprisonment of up to five years for a first offence, and up to ten years for a second or subsequent offence.
PSIRA has also published consumer guidance stating that clients have a legal responsibility to use legitimate, registered security service providers. For this reason, businesses, estates, and homeowners should always confirm that the provider they appoint is properly registered and in good standing where the law requires it.
Computers4U is proudly PSIRA registered and compliant (PSIRA No. 4948537), giving our clients added confidence that our CCTV, access control, and related security services are delivered by a properly registered provider. Clients can also verify PSIRA registration details using PSIRA’s public verification tools.
Important note
The exact registration requirement can depend on the nature of the service being rendered. This page is provided for general information and should not be taken as formal legal advice. Where necessary, clients and service providers should confirm their obligations directly with PSIRA or obtain independent legal advice.
